Tips for Your Engagement Photo Shoot
A few of my favorite tips and tricks for your upcoming engagement session!
Tips & Tricks
This isn’t JUST an engagement session, this is now DATE NIGHT for you love birds! Change your mindset about this evening right now! Plan a full date night with your session being a part of it. This is the biggest tip I can give you. Not only will it make your night more fun, romantic, and relaxing, but it’ll improve your photos!
Have a drink or two before your session, or include a drink into your session. A drink or two always helps calm the nerves and usually makes couples more flirty.
Have at least two outfits, usually one dressy and one more comfortable. There is no such thing as too dressy for your engagement photos! For the comfortable outfit, have fun with it. If it is winter maybe add a cute pair of stocking hats, scarves, and gloves etc or choose a fun jacket, hat, any fun accessory, etc. Also, you don’t want to match, but try and wear complimentary colors. Here is a link to a color wheel to help you find complimentary colors. (Color Wheel)
DO NOT WEAR: tight stripes, large logos or sayings on shirt, or anything too loud or in your face. If you aren’t sure, check with your photographer.
Wear a cami and spanxs or some type of undergarment (if possible with your outfit) to make changing outfits easier if there are no places to change around.
Bring bug spray, tide pen, lint roller, comfy shoes to be able to switch into while walking, a sweater to keep warm while walking, and towels if we are going by water, because you just never know.
Bring a hairbrush, hairspray, chapstick, and makeup for any touch ups. Make sure to moisturize before your session, no dry skin here!
Steam/iron your clothes prior to the session, so you don’t have to worry about any wrinkles.
Listen to some of your favorite songs together on your way to the session. Talk about memories of when you first met, fell in love, proposed, etc.
Have FUN with your partner! Be goofy, make them laugh, tell them something you love about them. This is the time that PDA is highly encouraged!
Make your engagement session more romantic and fun!
LOVE LETTER - Write a love letter, in any form, to your partner. Say what you need to say. Keep it a secret until your session.
THAT SONG - Choose a song that is special to you both or reminds you of a beautiful moment in your relationship and play it during your session.
SPECIAL LOCATION - Include a location that is intimate to the two of you. This may be somewhere you always go, proposed or met, etc. OR take this opportunity to travel and make your engagement session an adventure! I love traveling for engagement sessions! Message me to learn more about having me travel somewhere for your session!
DELIGHT ME - Plan a surprise for your partner - something you know that will light up their face. Keep it a secret until your session.
PETS- All pets are highly encouraged to be included into your session. I mean, they are a part of your family!
THINGS YOU LOVE - Include things you love such a hobbies, beer and pizza, love notes from each other, etc.
PROMISES - Think of one thing you’d like to promise your partner. Write it down on a piece of paper and bring it to your session.
Make sure to mention to your photographer if you have something for your partner, so they can make sure to capture it all.
